Disney
The transnational company that operates under the name ‘The Walt Disney Company’
was founded by brothers Roy and Walt Disney in 1926. The company originated in
California producing animated and silent films. Walt Disney was an animator and
worked with his brother and Margaret Winkler on ‘Alice Comedies’ before creating
the iconic Mickey Mouse.
Disney’s main headquarters are in Burbank, California. However, Disney has a total of 12 parks aligning with the film studios across the world and after buying a vast range of film studios including: Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar and 20th Century Fox, the corporation has many studios dotted all across the United States. Disney itself is not owned by a single person or company as it is a publicly-traded corporation.

As a result of owning such a huge collection of film studios, Disney is able to produce many films each year generating incredible amounts of revenue without having to interfere too much. Therefore, Disney’s focus on creating their own content is under little pressure. Moreover, the rich and diverse franchises that Disney own, allow a broad selection of films, series and documentaries to put on their subscription streaming service ‘Disney+’ which now has over 95 million members. Another factor contributing to extreme revenue is the ability to expand each of the 12 parks worldwide after buying more franchises. In total, Disney has assets worth $201 billion. As Disney owns so many franchises, many actors perform in many films should the storyline involve them.
In terms of the box office, Disney’s highest grossing films are:
1. Avengers Endgame
2. Star Wars – The Force Awakens
3. Avengers Infinity War
4. The Lion King
5. The Avengers.
These films alone have made just below 10 billion dollars.
In 2020, Disney Pixar’s ‘Onward’ was the company’s highest grossing film with a budget of 200 million dollars. Disney also have planned all film releases for the next five years.
There are many positives that go along with being a big institution for Disney. They own such a large percentage of the film industry that they have a huge impact on other studios success. This develops from Disney’s release schedule.
